David Hundeyin, a Nigerian blogger, has been exposed by the Oxford University newspaper as a fraud.

The Oxford University Newspaper, Cherwell, has exposed David Hundeyin as an academic fraud with no institutional affiliation to the University. Hundeyin had recently boasted of his Oxford affiliations to his Twitter followers in order to give the impression that he genuinely contributes to the body of knowledge and scholarship that the institution represents. This information is available in Hundeyin’s Twitter bio, which describes him as a “2023 Distinguished James Currey Fellow, Centre for African Studies, Oxford University.”

Cherwell's investigation revealed that the James Currey Society, which awarded Hundeyin the title “James Currey Fellow,” is not funded or endowed by the University or its Centre for African Studies. The Society was founded to honor the work and legacy of British writer, publisher, and editor James Currey. The investigation also discovered that the Society is a UK non-profit organization founded by David Hundeyin’s associate, Onyeka Nwelue, whose status as an Academic Visitor was terminated by both Oxford and Cambridge for his unauthorized commercial use of their emblems.

David Hundeyin tweeted in an attempt to defend his Oxford affiliation after Cherwell’s expose, claiming that his Director at the Cambridge University Centre of African Studies had stated that there was something “deeply suspect” going on at Oxford. However, he did not mention the name of the director. In addition, Hundeyin tweeted, in what appears to be a desperate attempt to undermine the credibility of Cherwell’s investigations or the Oxford University altogether.

The investigation revealed that Nwelue, David Hundeyin's associate, claimed to be a professor at Oxford and Cambridge universities but could not provide evidence of an academic PhD. Following an investigation into his behavior, the University of Cambridge confirmed that Nwelue’s affiliation with the institution had also been severed.

Cherwell’s investigation calls into question the claims made by populist figures on social media about their affiliations in order to boost their accomplishments and credentials in public. The investigation has exposed Hundeyin as a fraudulent blogger who has engaged in various scams to boost his reputation, including claiming false affiliations with prestigious institutions like Oxford University.

In another development, it has been revealed that David Hundeyin has a history of misogynistic and sexist behavior on social media, as well as accusations of criminal activity.

Several Twitter users have come forward with screenshots of Onyeka Nwelue and David Hundeyin's derogatory and demeaning comments about women, particularly those who speak out against his views. One user tweeted, "David Hundeyin is a fraudster and a misogynist. He uses his platform to attack and belittle women who dare to challenge his opinions."

Furthermore, there have been allegations of fraudulent activity by David Hundeyin, including scamming individuals out of money through fake investment opportunities. These allegations have yet to be proven, but they add to the growing list of concerns about David Hundeyin's credibility and character.

In light of these revelations, it is imperative that individuals exercise caution when engaging with Hundeyin or his content online. It is also essential that institutions like Oxford and Cambridge University take a closer look at the affiliations and credentials of individuals claiming to be associated with their institutions, in order to prevent future instances of academic fraud and misrepresentation.
